What Laser Procedure is Right for Me?

In the world of dermatology, laser procedures have become a cornerstone for addressing various skin concerns. However, with an array of options available, it has quickly become challenging to determine which laser procedure is best suited for your specific needs. At Art of Dermatology at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, we offer a host of laser rejuvenation and vascular treatments customizable to your unique needs.

What are Laser Procedures?

Laser procedures in dermatology involve the use of focused laser beams to treat various skin conditions and concerns. These procedures utilize different types of lasers, each with specific wavelengths and targets, some of which focus on stimulating collagen production while others are meant to treat brown pigment or vascular lesions. Regardless of their intended purpose, laser procedures are an outstanding nonsurgical option for cosmetic improvement with significantly less downtime than major surgery.

Solta Medical’s Fraxel Restore Dual

Fraxel Restore Dual is a fractional laser system renowned for its ability to rejuvenate the skin by targeting both the epidermis and dermis simultaneously with 1550 nm and 1927 nm wavelength options. By delivering precise microbeams of laser energy, Fraxel stimulates collagen production, improves skin texture, reduces fine lines, and diminishes pigmentation irregularities.

Solta Medical’s Clear + Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant is a gentle non-invasive laser treatment utilizing 1440 nm and 1927 nm wavelengths to address minor, early signs of aging and improve overall skin texture and tone by promoting collagen, enhancing skin radiance, and reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines. The gentler power delivery of this laser makes it a good choice for a wider range of skin types.

Cynosure’s PicoSure: FOCUS

PicoSure Focus utilizes picosecond technology to deliver ultra-short pulses of 755 nm of laser wavelengths to target areas of concern– this advanced laser system effectively treats acne scars, pigmentation issues, and signs of aging with minimal discomfort. Research has demonstrated its efficacy in improving skin texture and pigmentation irregularities. The 755 nm wavelength also makes this laser safer for a wider range of skin types.

Cutera’s Excel V

Excel V utilizes a 532 nm wavelength to target a wide range of skin concerns– clinical studies have shown favorable outcomes with vascular lesions, pigmentation irregularities, and signs of aging.

Candela’s Vbeam

Vbeam is a brand of pulse dye laser, a vascular laser with 595 nm wavelengths designed to target and treat vascular lesions, including broken blood vessels, rosacea, and port wine stains. By delivering targeted wavelengths, Vbeam selectively heats and destroys blood vessels while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue to reduce redness and vascular lesions.

Intense Pulsed Light

IPL therapy is not a true laser technology. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) utilizes broad-spectrum light with filtered single or bands of wavelengths of light energy that stimulate collagen production and address a wide range of skin imperfections. Clinical studies have proven its efficacy for helping improve skin texture, redness, and brown pigmentation. Dr. Krant uses the Cutera Limelight IPL.
