Fraxel Restore Dual®

The Fraxel Dual fractional laser is a non-ablative skin resurfacing laser that can address many skin concerns, such as skin laxity, skin discoloration, and lesions, as well as wrinkles around the eyes, acne scars, and surgical scars. This highly versatile tool allows Dr. Krant to treat any and all of your skin concerns while simultaneously stimulating skin and collagen from the inside out.

How does Fraxel Restore Dual Work?

Fraxel-Restore-DualThe Fraxel Restore laser provides a wide array of treatment options to address many forms of aging, customized to each patient’s needs and concerns. It’s the perfect solution for people who want their skin to look younger. Fraxel has two different wavelengths (1927 nm and 1550 nm) for dual benefits during treatment. One wavelength is used to break up abnormal pigments to clear brown spots or patches as well as sun spots, with minimal collagen building. The other goes deeper to improve skin texture, fine lines, and wrinkles as well as helping scar tissue improve by stimulating the skin’s natural production of collagen a bit more.

Fraxel’s proven laser technology can help reverse the visible effects of aging, helping you look as young as you feel without the need for surgery or injections. Dr. Jessica Krant utilizes the non-ablative Fraxel Dual lasers for a variety of skin concerns including wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars and other scars, unwanted pigmentation, and melasma. Non-ablative means that this treatment does not remove any layers of skin, rather creating microscopically heated channels in the skin that the body quickly heals by building collagen and generating new, fresh skin cells.

What is Fraxel effective on?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles – like crow’s feet and frown lines
  • Surface scarring –  improving the appearance of acne and other scarring
  • Pigmentation – reducing the appearance of age spots
  • Sun damage – helping heal skin damage and sun spots
  • Actinic Keratosis (AK) – a common pre-cancerous skin condition. Fraxel is a cosmetic treatment but has been unofficially shown to help reduce the burden of precancerous cells during cosmetic treatments.

Am I a candidate for Fraxel skin resurfacing?

Fraxel laser treatment is for both men and women who want to correct certain problem areas of their skin and enhance their appearance without the need for invasive surgery. This laser skin resurfacing treatment easily fits into any lifestyle and is clinically proven to be safe and nearly painless after preparing with numbing cream. Frequently Asked Questions about Fraxel Laser Treatments

What skin concerns can Fraxel® treat?

Fraxel® is a family of lasers of all different wavelengths. Dr. Krant most frequently uses the Fraxel Restore 1927 nm wavelength laser. She also uses the 1550 nm device. Together, they are Fraxel Dual. These are the “nonablative” Fraxel devices that create microthermal heat injuries with a grid of tiny dots, but do not “ablate” or remove tissue. The 1927 nm wavelength is helpful for discoloration and texture, triggering formation of new collagen with minimal downtime.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

As with any laser, results are seen with one session, but the more sessions performed, the more visible and long lasting results become.

How long does each Fraxel® session take?

After 30 minutes to an hour of topical numbing cream, Fraxel laser for full face may take 5 to 20 minutes depending on settings and the number of passes your dermatologist feels are appropriate for your skin

What is the recovery time after a Fraxel® session?

Fraxel is a family of lasers, so this differs depending on device. The Fraxel Restore 1927 nm laser causes a day or two of redness and swelling, followed by a week or two of dryness and peeling. Full results are first seen at about one month, with improvement and new collagen production kicking in over the next few months.

How soon will I see results after the procedure?

First results are seen at about the one month mark after the Fraxel Restore 1927nm laser, but results continue to improve over the next few months as new collagen is formed.

Can Fraxel® be used on areas other than the face?

Yes. The Fraxel® lasers can be used on other areas. The more invasive the laser, the higher risk of permanent burns and scarring, so these lasers should only be used by experienced, board-certified physician dermatologists or plastic surgeons.

Will my skin peel or flake after the treatment, and for how long?

Everyone’s skin is different but some may experience dryness, peeling, or flaking for about two weeks following a Fraxel 1927 nm treatment.

Can I combine Fraxel® with other skincare treatments for better results?

Yes. Fraxel laser rejuvenation treatments can be combined with other lasers, with skincare, or with injectables such as fillers or neuromodulators like Botox.
