What is JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC?
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is the newest dermal filler to be released by the pharmaceutical company Allergan. In March of 2017, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Juvederm Vollure XC for injection into the facial tissue to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, in adults over the age of 21. Juvederm Vollure can help with areas known as “smile lines” or “laugh lines” that run from the side of the nose to the corners of one’s mouth. Juvederm Vollure XC was first approved in Europe as Juvederm Volift in 2013, but has become available in the US as Vollure XC as of April 2017.
According to a press release by Allergan, in the US pivotal clinical trial, a majority (59%) of subjects saw improvement in moderate to severe nasolabial folds for up to 18 months after injection of JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC. Patient satisfaction in the pivotal study was also high: 82% of patients said they were very satisfied at 6 months and 68% at 18 months.
How long does JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC last?
The VYCROSS® technology contributes to the long duration of VOLLURE™ XC by holding the hyaluronic acid molecules together in a cohesive gel, which keeps it intact after it’s injected into the skin. After the initial injection, JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC gives fantastic results up to 18 months, making it one of the longest lasting dermal fillers on the market.
Other Juvederm products that have been formulated with VYCROSS® technology include Voluma XC and Volbella XC.
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC was shown to last up to 18 months from the initial or touch-up injection in a majority of subjects.
What are the side effects of JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC?
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC has been formulated to contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic which helps to make the injection more comfortable for patients.
In the clinical study, the most common side effects were temporary injection site responses at the treatment site such as swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness lumps/bumps, redness, pain, discoloration, and itching. Most of these side effects resolved within one week.
It may be possible to feel lumps after injections, however, there should be no visible lumps at all. Uncomfortable lumps should shrink within a few weeks after initial swelling.

JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC, like other hyaluronic acid filler treatments, will help to improve your appearance temporarily, but it’s not a permanent solution and it won’t stop the aging process.
