Laser Rejuvenation

//Laser Rejuvenation

The normal aging process can give rise to a number of common aesthetic skin concerns, including enlarged pores, lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, redness, broken capillaries, spider veins, acne scars, and more. Laser and intense pulsed light treatments can help to reduce these conditions quickly and with minimal healing time.

At Art of Dermatology in New York City, Dr. Krant offers a number of laser and IPL treatments to help you achieve the smooth, youthful look you want.

Treatments & Devices:

Cutera Limelight in New York City

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL treatment uses intense pulses of light to improve the appearance of sun damage, acne scars, stretch marks, lines and wrinkles, and other skin imperfections. While you may see noticeable results after one appointment, most women and men achieve maximum results after a series of treatment sessions. IPL is a non-invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime afterward.

V-Beam

The V-Beam Laser is a pulse dye laser that effectively treats various vascular concerns, including visible blood vessels, rosacea, spider veins, and other lesions, while also improving skin tone and texture. This gentle yet powerful treatment operates at a specific wavelength and incorporates a cooling spray for patient comfort, making it a versatile option for addressing multiple skin issues simultaneously.

PicoSure®

The PicoSure® laser is the most effective method of tattoo removal currently available. Using the latest laser technology, PicoSure® is able to remove both colored and black and grey tattoos without harming the skin. It works by delivering ultra-short picosecond pulses of energy, which create a photomechanical effect, or PressureWave™, that targets ink while avoiding unmarked tissue.

PicoSure® FOCUS™

The PicoSure® FOCUS™ is a revolutionary non-invasive laser skin rejuvenating treatment option that uses the same advanced technology used to remove tattoos to also address unwanted skin pigmentation issues, such as age spots, sun damage, and acne scars.

Clear + Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant is an excellent option for those looking for a gentle solution to minor skin blemishes. This treatment has been clinically proven to help the skin look and feel younger by promoting collagen production to smooth away the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone and texture.

Fraxel® DUAL

Fraxel® DUAL is a non-ablative fractional laser used to improve skin laxity and tone, as well as many common signs of aging, including lines and wrinkles and age spots. Most women and men benefit from a series of treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart.

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Rejuvenation

What types of lasers are used for cosmetic procedures, and how do they differ?

There are many different types of lasers used for cosmetic procedures, as well as many different types of devices that themselves are not lasers at all. True lasers use a parallel, organized (collimated) beam of a single wavelength (color) of light that is manipulated in various ways and applied to skin. Other energy-based devices may rely on a flashlamp (Intense Pulsed Light), radiofrequency, microwave, ultrasound, or other sources of energy. In terms of true lasers, the wavelength of the beam determines the specific target in the skin, and other factors, including the energy and speed of the beam, determine the depth and to what degree the beam heats the target tissue.

Are laser treatments safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones?

Lasers can be extremely damaging and should only be operated by trained, experienced professionals. States differ on who is legally allowed to operate a cosmetic laser, but just because a state law allows it does not mean everyone allowed knows how to choose treatments and perform them safely. Even people with lighter skin tones can be permanently burned and scarred by laser treatments, but people with darker skin tones are even more at risk. There are certain lasers that are on the safer side for darker skin tones, but even those should only be operated by the most experienced physicians.

What should I expect during the procedure? Is it painful?

Some lasers are relatively painless and can be used without any numbing or anesthesia beforehand. Many use either no built-in cooling or some with a cold contact or cold spray. Other laser treatments require an hour of numbing cream ahead of time. The strongest lasers require IV sedation along with infiltrated local anesthesia.

How should I prepare my skin before a laser treatment?

Most laser treatments do best when you have avoided sun exposure for at least 4 to 8 weeks beforehand. Other than that, it’s important to speak with your physician about any particular preparation for whichever procedure you will be having.

How many sessions will I need to see noticeable results?

Each session always brings improvement. But how many sessions will be required for your situation depends on the skin issue, your skin type, and which laser will be performed. Some lasers treat a bit at a time, and some are meant to have a larger impact all at once but come with more downtime and healing time needed.

Can laser treatments stimulate collagen production or improve skin elasticity?

Yes, laser treatments can stimulate collagen production or improve skin elasticity.

Can laser treatments be combined with other cosmetic procedures for better results?

Yes, laser treatments are often combined with other cosmetic procedures in an overall rejuvenation plan.

Will the treatment leave scars or marks on my skin?

Laser treatments do always come with a high risk of leaving marks or scars, but properly selected lasers for your skin type should not leave any long term marks or scars. This is why careful selection of your laser physician matters.

Can laser treatments remove or reduce acne scars effectively?

Laser treatments can remove some acne marks very effectively, but other acne scarring is resistant and will require multiple different types of lasers as well as possible surgical treatments combined together.

Can laser treatments address issues like broken blood vessels or redness on the skin?

Yes, vascular lasers target capillaries, broken blood vessels, and redness on the skin. But some general rejuvenating lasers help with redness as well.

Can I undergo laser treatments if I have an active skin condition like acne or eczema?

Sometimes laser helps with acne and other skin conditions. Sometimes those conditions need to be medically improved before laser is a good idea to pursue.
