What is Laser Genesis?

Some of the most popular cosmetic procedures offered by Dr. Krant use the energy of lasers to rejuvenate the skin and restore natural beauty. There are many types of lasers that treat different conditions based on their source of energy and wavelength. Today we’re going to be talking about Laser Genesis by Cutera, a treatment that can improve the appearance of redness, enlarged pores, uneven texture, fine lines and wrinkles.

Skin rejuvenation with near-infrared (NIR) irradiation

Laser Genesis is a near-infrared (NIR) Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064-nm. Studies have proven that NIR irradiation is efficient for skin rejuvenation due to its ability to provide long-lasting stimulation of elastin. It will also increase the amount of collagen, resulting in clinically improved skin tone and texture.

As the name implies, elastin is a highly elastic protein found within the connective tissue layer underneath the skin surface. This protein is what helps the skin to resume its shape after stretching or contracting. Along with elastin, you’ll find collagen in the connective tissue as well. Collagen is a structural protein that gives skin its strength and firmness. Over time, collagen and elastin are degraded, which represents one of the main mechanisms contributing to signs of aging. Therefore, Laser Genesis can minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.
Additionally, the thermal energy of Laser Genesis targets the tiny vessels and capillaries that are the cause of persistent skin redness, such as with conditions like rosacea. By breaking down these vessels, blood that is trapped under the surface of the skin dissipates, which reduces overall redness.

Benefits of Laser Genesis

In addition to the clinically proven results with Laser Genesis, there are many other benefits that patients appreciate with this treatment. Let’s start with the convenience. Laser Genesis is a non-invasive treatment that typically only takes about 15 to 20 minutes. There is no need for anesthesia because it is a painless procedure that only causes a gentle warming sensation. Also, there is no downtime required with this laser. Thus, the Laser Genesis treatment is ideal for busy patients who want to see results but do not have the time to take off for recovery.

It’s typically recommended to receive between 3 to 10 Laser Genesis treatments, spaced about 4 weeks apart. It’s important to keep in mind that even though the course of treatment can be several months, you don’t have to deal with the disadvantages of downtime and recovery after each treatment. Dr. Krant will be able to design a custom treatment plan for you based on your unique needs.

Lastly, Laser Genesis is designed for safe and effective treatment on all skin types and ethnicities, and can be safely used on all body parts (excluding the eye and surrounding area). This is in contrast to other lasers that come with the risk of discoloration if used on the wrong skin type.
