Spotlight on: Vbeam Perfecta® Pulsed Dye Laser

The normal aging process can give rise to a number of common aesthetic skin concerns, including uneven skin tone, redness, broken capillaries, spider veins, acne scars, and more. Laser treatments can help to reduce these conditions quickly and with minimal healing time. In order to help you eliminate these imperfections and achieve the smooth, youthful look you want, Dr. Krant offers a number of laser treatments. One of the most popular lasers, the Vbeam Perfecta® pulsed-dye laser, is in the spotlight today. The Vbeam Perfecta® is considered to be the gold standard of pulsed-dye lasers and is proven to be a safe and effective way to treat a wide variety of dermatologic conditions.

What is a pulsed-dye laser?

Lasers are sources of high-intensity light that can be used for the treatment of various dermatologic conditions depending on the wavelength, pulse characteristics, and energy output of the laser being used and the nature of the condition being treated. Various kinds of lasers are available; they are differentiated by the medium that produces the laser beam.
With a pulsed-dye laser, the medium is an organic dye mixed in a solvent. A high energy source of light, such as a flashlamp or external laser, is needed to “pump” this liquid beyond its lasing threshold. The incoming light excites the dye molecules into the state of being ready to emit stimulated radiation. With the Vbeam Laser System, the pulsed laser energy is delivered at a wavelength of 595 nm. This energy passes through the epidermis (top layer of skin) to the dermis (middle layer of skin) where it is absorbed by chromophores in the cells rather than by the surrounding tissues. A chromophore is the part of a molecule responsible for its color. Ultimately, this destroys the targeted cells, which are then cleared by the body.

What conditions does Vbeam Perfecta® treat?

Vbeam Perfecta® can be used for the treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions. Some of the most common conditions treated with the Vbeam Perfecta® include rosacea, broken capillaries, angiomas, redness in scars, and redness in stretch marks.

Since the Vbeam Perfecta® Laser System has a special Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), a device that delivers a very cold spray to the skin just before the laser pulse is emitted, discomfort during treatment is minimal. Additionally, side effects are minor and may include redness, swelling, and bruising. While results from the Vbeam Perfecta® are long-lasting, you may require multiple treatments to achieve optimal results. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Krant today to discuss whether the Vbeam Perfecta® is right for you.
