Picture this: you’re about to head out on a first date. You’ve chosen the perfect outfit and you meet up with your date at a nice restaurant. Whether it’s nerves, excitement, or just being too warm, you feel yourself begin to sweat. As dinner goes on, you can feel the sweat in your underarm area begin to build, which means it may not be best to lift your arms or take off your jacket. The worst part? This isn’t the first time this has happened. In fact, this happens all too often on dates, at family gatherings, at work, at home: everywhere.

Sweating is perfectly natural, but sometimes it can be excessive. Some people tend to sweat a bit more than others, which can cause sweat marks to show up on clothing and cause general discomfort. Seeing wet spots from sweat indicates to others that you are nervous, anxious, or simply too warm, which can be embarrassing and troublesome. When deodorants or antiperspirant treatments don’t do the trick, there is another solution that can help you permanently feel clean and dry. If you’re tired of dealing with excessive sweating, marks on your clothing, or discomfort, miraDry® may be the solution for you. This safe, non-invasive treatment, which targets sweat glands in the armpits, has saved thousands of patients from embarrassment caused by excessive sweat. So how does miraDry® work? How soon will I see results? Where can I receive miraDry® treatments? Here are the answers to those questions and more.

What is miraDry®?

miraDry® is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that was designed to put an end to excessive underarm sweating.

miraDry® is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that was designed to put an end to excessive underarm sweating. The treatment involves the use of electromagnetic energy that targets sweat glands in the underarm area. During the treatment, sweat glands in the treatment area are permanently shut down, which means long-term results.

How Does it Work?

Though it sounds complex, the treatment is quite simple. Dr. Krant will numb your underarm skin and place the instrument over the axilla (armpit). From there, you will feel a slight suction as the glands are brought closer to the surface of your skin. Then, as the glands are being eradicated by heat, you will feel a cooling sensation, which helps keep your skin protected. The treatment takes roughly one hour and may take up to three sessions for full effect, though one treatment is often enough. After treatment, you may notice some swelling, itching, numbness, or general discomfort in the area that was treated which can last a few weeks. miraDry® has an excellent safety record with no permanent side effects reported. However, if you are concerned about prolonged or unique side effects or if miraDry® is right for your needs, be sure to ask Dr. Krant about any concerns.

Will I Sweat More in Other Areas If I Do This Treatment?

The armpits are a small area of your body and reducing sweating with this method in just the armpit area does not cause compensatory sweating elsewhere.

No. The armpits are a small area of your body and reducing sweating with this method in just the armpit area does not cause compensatory sweating elsewhere.

Is it dangerous to “kill off” the sweat glands in my armpits? Don’t I need them for cooling my body? No. The rest of you sweats more than enough to keep you fresh and cool.

When Will I Notice Results?

Results are almost immediate. Humans do not need sweat glands in their armpits, so they will not grow back after treatment is finished. If your dermatologist recommends coming in for a second treatment, the results will be even more prevalent then. Best of all, results are long lasting, so the days of excessive sweat and wet underarms will be a thing of the past!
