Leg Veins
Laser Treatment and Sclerotherapy for Treating Leg Veins
Many individuals suffer from dark veins on the legs and thighs called spider veins or varicose veins.
Although these veins are usually harmless and painless, they tend to cause embarrassment and are difficult to hide. Surgery can help, but is invasive and painful.
As an alternative, non-surgical laser treatments and sclerotherapy are a great way to remove noticeable small veins and capillaries without downtime or pain.
What Types of Treatments Are Available?
The Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser is a technique used to remove spider veins. This treatment uses a laser to destroy the targeted vein and remove the discoloration on your legs.
Sclerotherapy is another way to remove spider veins. Unlike Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser treatments, it involves injections into the affected vein rather than the use of a laser.
The Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser and sclerotherapy are both virtually painless, minimally invasive, safe techniques that require little or no downtime.
What is Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser Treatment?
Dr. Jessica Krant, board certified dermatologist located in Manhattan’s upper east side, uses a laser wavelength with flexible parameters to treat the affected veins during the Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser treatment.
This laser will target the vein and cause the blood inside to coagulate. This coagulation destroys the vein, and the vein is then absorbed into the patient’s body.
The procedure works well on spider veins and small varicose veins. Typically the treatment is painless, with only a minimal number of patients mentioning minor stinging.
The Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser therapy is done on an out-patient basis in Dr. Krant’s office and usually requires approximately 20 minutes, with one or two office visits for maximum results.
Patients are able to return to their normal daily routines following therapy; however, should avoid exercising for about 24 hours.
What is Sclerotherapy Like?
Sclerotherapy involves injections to treat the affected veins. During the procedure, Dr. Krant will inject a sclerotherapy solution using a fine-tipped needle. This solution causes the vein to shut down and shrink. The solution is usually a liquid, but some doctors will sometimes us a foam solution, if working on small varicose veins.
The procedure is usually quite painless and only takes about 20 minutes for the injections. The number of visits and treatments depends on the severity of the vein.
After treatment, compression stockings should be worn to keep the area compressed and ensure the best possible results. Other than wearing compression stockings, you can return to your normal daily activities; however, you should avoid the sun for a few weeks.
What are the Benefits of Laser Treatments and Sclerotherapy?
The first and foremost benefit of laser treatment or sclerotherapy is the excellent cosmetic results they achieve.
These treatments rid you of embarrassing spider veins and large capillaries to give you beautiful, vein-free skin. Additionally, both are safe techniques creating a healthier blood flow in the body.
Regardless of which treatment you choose, the targeted vein will become non-functioning thus causing the blood to reroute and flow through healthier veins. Both laser treatments and sclerotherapy are painless and require no downtime as would be needed following a surgical procedure.
Why Choose Laser Treatments or Sclerotherapy?
Cutera CoolGlide® Vascular Laser treatments and sclerotherapy work great for getting rid of noticeable leg veins. They are typically quite painless, require no downtime and are a safe alternative to surgery and other invasive procedures.
With laser treatments or sclerotherapy, you can stop hiding your legs and feel confident in their improved vein-free appearance.
