V-Beam Laser

What is the VBeam Laser?

VBeam® is a revolutionary pulsed-dye laser (PDL) designed to treat redness caused by rosacea, visible facial blood vessels, and other vascular or pigmented skin imperfections, including:

  • Spider veins

  • Port wine stains

  • Broken capillaries (blood vessels)

What Does the VBeam Treat?

The VBeam pulsed-dye laser is one of the most effective laser treatment options for improving rosacea, pigmented birthmarks, and visible blood vessels. In addition, the VBeam may help to treat acne scars, stretch marks, and other skin discolorations.

What Do VBeam Laser Treatments Feel Like?

During treatment, you may experience a warming or tingling sensation throughout the treatment area, and Dr. Krant may use anesthetics to maximize your comfort, though this may not be required. The area being treated is protected by the laser’s dynamic cooling method, which delivers a cooling mist onto the skin before the laser pulse is emitted. This increases your comfort during treatment, as well as minimizes redness following each session.

The VBeam Laser Procedure

The VBeam laser delivers intense but gentle bursts of laser energy in the form of a specific wavelength of light to targeted areas of the skin. That light is then absorbed by blood vessels or melanin in the treated locations, without harming surrounding tissue, offering precise results while minimizing post-treatment bruising.

To ensure your comfort during the procedure, a cooling spray accompanies the VBeam laser, which generates specific heat in the surrounding skin around the treatment area, and Dr. Krant will supply you with protective eyewear.

Each treatment session is custom-tailored to match your specific skincare needs and goals, which you can discuss in depth with Dr. Krant during your consultation prior to beginning your first laser treatment.

VBeam Results

The results of the VBeam laser can be permanent, depending on factors like the condition of the skin being treated and your lifestyle, which can be discussed with Dr. Krant during your consultation.

Most people notice significant results immediately after their VBeam treatment, although multiple treatment sessions may be required, depending on the type and severity of the condition being treated. After each treatment, you should notice an improvement in your skin’s appearance, with your final results gradually appearing over the next several months.

Am I a Good Candidate for VBeam?

If you have a need or desire to improve rosacea, birthmarks, or visible blood vessels, you could be a great candidate for VBeam. Factors such as the age, type, and severity of the skin discoloration, as well as the location on your body, can influence the best possible laser treatment method for your unique concerns. Dr. Krant will discuss your options and possible results with you at your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions about VBeam

What does the Candela Vbeam laser do?

Vbeam is a product brand name for Candela’s pulse dye vascular laser, which is a true laser. Vascular lasers treat primarily red targets (blood vessels, etc.) but may also be valuable with some pigmentary (brown) issues. The wavelength of laser light that comes from the device is created by a dye packet, and not by a crystal. The wavelength of the Vbeam laser is 694 nanometers (nm), which targets red and some brown colors. This means the Vbeam laser can help with general redness, broken blood vessels, telangiectasia, spider veins, broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, and spider angiomas. The Vbeam laser is also known to be helpful in reducing the redness of scars as well as in treating some forms of melasma (brown pigment) because melasma can be the surface presentation of underlying trouble with blood vessels. Vbeam can also help with reducing the redness of new stretch marks, acne scars, and even in some cases, may help reduce other causes of facial inflammation such as acne or rosacea.

How long does it take for Vbeam laser to heal?

Vbeam pulse dye laser treatment targets blood vessels of different sizes with varying degrees of power, so each case is individual. Short term results may be visible on the same day, but true results may take a month or two to settle in. Blood vessels can shrink when they are shocked, but may recover. To determine whether they were permanently damaged (longer term result) takes several weeks. The expected immediate redness and swelling from treatment should recede within a day or two, but it may take several days to a couple of weeks for any bruising (sign of good results to come because vessels have been destroyed) to resolve.

How many sessions of Vbeam are needed?

It may take one to several Vbeam sessions to achieve your goals. This is not always predictable and must be discussed with your treating dermatologist.

What should I avoid after Vbeam?

After Vbeam pulsed dye laser treatment, avoid excessive heat, friction, and irritating skin ingredients. The best bet for vessels to stay sealed after the focused heat of the laser beam is to leave them alone and not to put them into a situation where they would normally expand to send more blood flow to the area. Ask your dermatologist for post-treatment instructions. These may vary.

Does Vbeam get rid of brown spots?

Although Vbeam is not primarily a pigment laser, it may have some benefit in treating some types of pigment spots. This is variable depending on your skin type and what is causing your brown spots. Speak with your treating dermatologist to determine whether a test spot may be of value.

How long does it take for broken capillaries to go away after Vbeam?

It may take a couple of days but also up to two months for broken capillaries, spider veins, and other red lesions to resolve and disappear after Vbeam treatment. This will depend on the extent of damage to the vessel by the laser and on your own skin’s process of healing and dissolving the injured vessel.
